What is estimated cost per passenger of restoring the fifth train service on the Heart of Wales line?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
The subsidy requirement for restoring a fifth service on the Heart of Wales line will of course depend on the number of fare paying passengers using the service. The service that was removed from the Heart of Wales Line in December 2024 suffered from very low usage which is why it was recommended to be removed from the line. The new fifth service that will be introduced by Transport for Wales will run at a different time to the service that was removed. It is expected that this new fifth service will carry more passengers than the service that was removed, but Transport for Wales will closely monitor this. It is important that passengers do both support and travel on the new service to minimise the subsidy required to operate it.
