What are the Welsh Government’s plans for expanding the provision of children’s oncology services in north Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The commissioning of paediatric oncology in North Wales is a matter for the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Services for children and young people’s cancer are provided via principal treatment centres (PTCs) to ensure teams have the required specialist skills and case numbers to deliver high standards of care.

The PTC for North Wales is provided by Alder Hey Children’s Hospital with outreach at three satellite paediatric oncology shared care units across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
The Joint Commissioning Committee also commissions high energy proton beam therapy from the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
