Will the Cabinet Secretary outline the Welsh Government’s guidance on making train stations accessible for all?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Outside of the Core Valley Lines, rail infrastructure including accessibility at stations is a responsibility for the UK Government. However, passenger accessibility is an important issue, and we do work closely with the UK Government on this including supporting the Access for All programme delivering step free access to UK Government-owned stations across Wales.
We are committed to improving the accessibility of the rail infrastructure we do own. We are delivering step free access to almost every station on the Core Valley Lines network as part of our over £1bn investment in transformation. This, combined with the new electric trains that enable level boarding, will ensure that this busy network of services will be more accessible for all passengers. It is a vision that we would wish to see for the wider network across Wales.
In addition, Transport for Wales has an Accessible Travel Policy in place outlining its commitment to accessibility and how it complies with the applicable legislation.
