Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
The amount spent by the Welsh Government on the research, development, and deployment of carbon capture technology during the 2024–25 financial year was £43,766.
The amount currently allocated by the Welsh Government on the research, development, and deployment of carbon capture technology during the 2025–26 financial year is £18,846.
This funding builds on previous Welsh Government funded activity in previous years to inform our understanding of carbon capture and storage, and its potential impact on Welsh citizens, the economy and the environment. For examples see A carbon capture, utilisation, and storage network for Wales: report and the associated supplementary report.
Welsh Government established Net Zero Industry Wales (NZIW) in 2022 as an independent organisation to support the development of decarbonisation pathways and to help co-ordinate sectoral pathways to net zero. We continue to fund NZIW, and their activity includes the planning and delivery of regional infrastructure, including carbon capture utilisation and storage, to enable decarbonisation of our industrial assets.
Following our recent public consultation, we are finalising our strategic policy for carbon capture and storage, which has been drafted to provide clarity for industry, developers, investors, and planning authorities in Wales.
