What was the cost per passenger of the removal of the Heart of Wales line service in December 2024?

Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Transport for Wales (TfW) estimated that the removal of a service from the Heart of Wales Line in December 2024 would result in a subsidy saving of some £1.5m per year. The service was removed due to a need to balance the operational costs of TfW rail services with subsidy requirement to support the provision of services alongside the low usage of the service being removed. It is expected that the new fifth service will carry more passengers than the service that was removed, but Transport for Wales will closely monitor this. It is important that passengers do both support and travel on the new service to minimise the subsidy required to operate it.
