Local authorities and key partners have a duty to report concerns that a child or adult at risk is experiencing, or is at risk of experiencing, abuse or neglect. Local authorities also have a duty to investigate concerns that are reported to them by professionals or the public and decisions in this regard are informed by all agencies involved with the child and family. Decisions about the actions to be taken to safeguard the child or adult are made based on this multi-agency information.
