What is the Cabinet Secretary doing to support local authorities in North Wales with school transport?

Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
On the 11 June 2025 I published a consultation on the revised Learner Travel Operational Guidance document. The guidance outlines the roles and responsibilities on all those involved with learner travel; most notably local authorities who have the statutory duty to provide school travel and transport for eligible learners in accordance with the Learner Travel (Wales) Measure.
I recently hosted a learner travel summit, providing an opportunity to bring key delivery partners together. Representatives from the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) and the Association of Transport Coordinators (ATCO) Cymru ensured that the perspectives of local authorities were central to the discussion. Following the summit, a series of workstreams have been created to support delivery and efficiency of learner travel across local authorities.
