What action is the Welsh Government taking to prevent the closure of Welsh abattoirs?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) and the Welsh Government work closely with abattoirs and have supported them to improve productivity and develop routes to market, notably for Welsh lamb and Welsh beef.
Since 2018, abattoirs have been able to access the Food Business Investment and Accelerator Schemes, and successful applicants received support to install processing equipment and upgrade infrastructure in their plants. The current window for Food Business Accelerator scheme is open to all Abattoirs of any size in Wales.
