What discussions has the Welsh Government had with Welsh Water about its Chief Executive's remuneration?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
Welsh Ministers do not have a formal role in determining executive pay for Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water. This is a matter for their Remuneration Committee. However, the Welsh Government has been clear that executive performance payments should only be made to fund exceptional performance and should be robustly regulated.
The Water (Special Measures) Act 2025 introduced a range of new regulatory measures, several of which I agreed to extend to Wales, including the curbing of executive bonuses when water companies fail to meet their targets.
We will continue to monitor executive pay to ensure it is proportionate and Welsh customers receive value for money.
