Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
In 2025-26, the Welsh Government is investing more than £294m in the education and training of healthcare professions. This is supporting a significant increase in the number of postgraduate medical training posts.
Since 2019, there has been an increase of 342 specialty training posts and 222 foundation posts. There are approximately 1,900 trainees in secondary care training programmes, and 900 in foundation training, as well as an additional 160 GP training places every year.
No decision has been made about the Education and Training Plan 2026-27.
