The Welsh Government sets out budget allocations in relation to the implementation costs of legislation in its annual draft budget.
Since the Children (Abolition of Defence of Reasonable Punishment) (Wales) Act received Royal Assent in 2020, we have supported Local Authorities to provide out of court parenting support, avoiding unnecessary criminalisation of parents. Our extensive communications campaigns, before and after the legislation came into force, promoted awareness of the change in the law and the support services available to parents and carers. Finally, research and evidence collection, both to establish baseline evidence and to support the statutory three and five year post implementation reviews, has been funded from the allocation of £6m.
