The Welsh Government Heat Strategy for Wales, published in July 2024, sets out a pathway for secure, clean and affordable heat in domestic and industrial settings, and our approach to achieve net zero.
The evidence is clear that electrification is the primary solution for decarbonising most home heating systems over the near to medium term. Technologies such as hydronic heat pumps, ground source heat loops and heat networks are well established and proven technologies. We are committed to delivering on the Climate Change Committee’s recommendation to focus on roll-out of these solutions and will be monitoring the availability and feasibility of other technologies which may play a smaller part in circumstances where electrification is not possible.
