What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with Menter Môn regarding ensuring that the tidal scheme is operational from this year?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
I have met with Morlais and Menter Mon to ensure that the Welsh Government can support the tidal stream industry in Wales. The Welsh Government’s £8 million Equity Stake in Morlais supports strengthening the grid connection at Parc Cybi, Holyhead, which will support Morlais operational readiness, targeted to begin around 2026/2027.
Four developers within Morlais were awarded Contracts for Difference funding in September 2023 as part of Allocation Round 5. These developers include HydroWing, Magallanes, Verdant Isles, and Mor Energy. Allocation Round 5 supports developments planned for delivery in years 2026/27 and 2027/28. I am confident that through our collaborative approach with Morlais, Menter Mon and industry, the first technology to be in the water in 2027 as planned.
