What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with bus operators regarding reinstating a direct bus service between Cardiff and Brecon?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Due to the existence of a commercially operated bus service linking Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff, it has not been possible for us to maintain the direct bus TrawsCymru T4 bus link between Brecon and Cardiff. Therefore, following the retendering of the non-commercial element of the T4 service contract last year by Transport for Wales, the T4 service now operates regularly between Newtown and Merthyr Tydfil only. Passengers can make onward connections at Merthyr by bus and rail to a range of destinations across South East Wales. Transport for Wales are working to ensure these connections are further improved and better ‘through ticketing’ arrangements are put in place for connecting passengers.
We will keep the issue under review and will look at opportunities to further improve TrawsCymru strategic bus links as part of as part of our plans to introduce bus franchising across the south east Wales region.
