Data from Medr confirms that apprenticeships with 30% or more Welsh medium delivery have consistently accounted for around 4–5% of all apprenticeship starts over the past five years. LLWR data shows that programmes delivering at least 30% Welsh‑medium content have ranged from 760 to 1,090 starts per full academic year since 2021/22, with the most recent provisional in‑year figure for 2024/25 (quarters 1–3) showing 615 starts to date.
• 2021/22: 760 starts
• 2022/23: 1,090 starts
• 2023/24: 870 starts
• 2024/25 (Q1–Q3, provisional): 615 starts
Since August 2021, programmes delivering at least 30% in Welsh have received a combined fundable value of £32 million, representing 5.1% of the total £624 million apprenticeship funding during that period. This proportion has remained stable throughout, mirroring the consistent share of apprenticeship starts delivered bilingually or through the medium of Welsh.
