What progress has the Welsh Government made with regard to introducing and implementing Awaab's law?

Atebwyd gan Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government
The Welsh Government has taken significant action to ensure tenants are protected from hazards such as damp and mould. The Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 requires all landlords to ensure that homes are fit for human habitation, which includes addressing issues that may pose a risk to tenants’ health and wellbeing.
To strengthen accountability and transparency for tenants, the Welsh Government is embedding statutory performance standards within the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) 2023. This new rule sets clear timescales for investigating and remedying hazards, including those relating to damp and mould. This rule comes into effect from 1 April 2026 and requires social landlords to publish response times and report on their performance as part of the WHQS compliance return
As set out in my statement in December 2025, this work reflects our continued commitment to ensuring that all tenants in Wales live in safe, healthy homes.
