Will the Welsh Government introduce a mandatory rule prohibiting children from carrying knives of any kind at school?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
We are clear in our intention to address behavioural challenges in our schools.
Under the Criminal Justice Act 1988, it is a criminal offence to possess a bladed article on school premises without good reason or lawful authority.
The Welsh Government’s existing Safe and Effective intervention: use of reasonable force and searching for weapons guidance makes clear that schools have the powers to search pupils for weapons without consent. It also sets out a number of measures to support schools prevent knives from being brought onto school premises.
