What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the impact on local communities and businesses of the closure of Post Office branches located within TG Jones outlets, including the Central Post Office in Swansea?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality (Sioned Williams)
Postal services and post offices are matters reserved to the UK Government. The UK Government set out their objectives for the Future of the Post Office in February 2026. These objectives include keeping the network at its current size and also keeping services in town centres where this is possible.
I am aware that a number of TG Jones branches across Wales are closing which will have an impact on Post Office services in affected communities. Post Office Limited has confirmed that it is working to find new host businesses nearby to ensure the continuation of Post Office services.
I am of course concerned when changes affect people and communities in Wales. As set out in our manifesto we are committed to supporting small businesses and regenerating our high streets.
