What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the reasons for falling literacy and numeracy standards in Welsh schools?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
We consider a wide range of relevant evidence, research and evaluation as well as quantitative data to assess literacy and numeracy standards in Wales. Improving standards remains an urgent challenge facing our education system.
Our new Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Plan, rooted in evidence and international best practice, will be published in September. It will introduce a clear approach to national, school and individual targets for learners, to support improvement and to ensure we can monitor progress nationally.
