How is the Welsh Government improving access to primary care services?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
The whole health system in Wales is facing huge levels of rising demand and complexity. This is impacting on access to services including primary care services in our communities. To address this, we know the system must change to one focused on prevention and care close to home to increase its sustainability and in turn to improve access. On 18 June, I convened a summit with NHS leaders to agree priorities for a sustainable shift of NHS resources towards primary care. An early agreed priority was for Health Boards to increase the proportion of their spending on primary care by 0.5% from 2027-28. This will support a range of activity improve access to primary care, including the commitment to recruit 100 additional GPs in Wales over the course of the Senedd term.
