Will the Cabinet Minister outline what plans he has to improve east-west travel links for north and south Wales into England?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Transport (Mark Hooper)
The Welsh Government recognises the importance of strong east-west transport links for communities and businesses in both the north and south of Wales, including connections into England. These links support access to work, education, services, trade and wider economic opportunities.
This Government will take a practical and Wales-first approach. We will work constructively with partners across the border where doing so delivers clear benefits for the people of Wales, focusing on opportunities that improve everyday journeys, support good jobs, connect communities and deliver long-term value for Wales.
In the north of Wales, this includes progressing Network North Wales to provide a more integrated, higher-frequency public transport network, improving links within the region and with places such as Chester, Liverpool, Manchester and Crewe. In the south of Wales, we will continue to support more resilient and sustainable travel along the M4 corridor, alongside the rail improvements needed to give people real alternatives. That includes working with partners to strengthen Cardiff-Newport-Bristol connections, supporting the delivery of the Burns recommendations for new stations and better services, and making the case for wider south-east of Wales rail investment through the Wales Rail Board and the emerging pipeline of Welsh rail priorities.
