Does the Welsh Government continue to encourage Welsh local authorities to become places or councils of sanctuary as part of Wales’s Nation of Sanctuary approach?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality (Sioned Williams)
I refer you to the answer the Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning gave to you (WQ99117) on 24 June 2026 which sets out the Welsh Government’s position. Decisions by local government on whether to work with City of Sanctuary UK, including seeking recognition as a place or council of sanctuary, are a matter for individual local authorities. The Welsh Government welcomes initiatives that help build fairer, safer and more cohesive communities.
