Was the Welsh Government aware that the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust was participating in a trial of the intelligent routing protocol during late 2022, and if so, what assessment did the Welsh Government make of the potential impact on ambulance call handling capacity and patient safety in Wales?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
Operational decisions regarding the design, testing and implementation of call handling processes are matters for the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust, which is responsible for ensuring appropriate governance, clinical oversight and risk management arrangements are in place.
The Welsh Government expects all NHS organisations to assess and manage potential risks associated with service changes in line with established governance requirements and their statutory responsibilities for quality and patient safety.
The Welsh Government holds the Trust to account through established NHS Wales performance and escalation arrangements to seek assurance on action being taken to address identified risks and improve services.
