How is the Welsh Government supporting steel-making in Newport?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy (Adam Price)
Wales has two major steel producers in Wales, 7 Steel UK with two sites based in Cardiff and Tata Steel UK (TSUK) in Port Talbot. TSUK has four downstream steel processing sites across Wales, one of which is in Llanwern.
The Welsh Government maintains support to Wales-based steelmakers across areas of devolved responsibilities including skills and apprenticeships, Research, Development and Innovation, and Environmental Protection.
My officials meet regularly with TSUK and continue to support the company to explore any opportunities that could help create a sustainable and successful future for its operations in Wales, including the Llanwern site.
