What action is Welsh Government taking to increase Wales's contribution to making the United Kingdom more self-sufficient in food production?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability (Llyr Gruffydd)
The Welsh Government is supporting food and drink businesses to innovate, improve productivity and grow, while supporting sustainable food production and resilient supply chains.
Wales already has key strengths in meat, dairy, bakery and drink production and makes up 25% of UK outputs. Welsh producers, processors and manufacturers supply retailer, wholesaler and hospitality and businesses across the United Kingdom.
Food security depends on resilient supply chains. We are working closely with the UK Government and the other devolved governments on issues affecting food production, food supply and wider food system resilience, including in the context of ongoing discussions about the future of the UK-EU relationship. Alongside this, we are developing a National Food Strategy for Wales to create a more sustainable, secure and resilient Welsh food system.
