How is the Welsh Government supporting endometriosis patients in Ceredigion Penfro?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy Minister for Social Care, Mental Health and Women’s Health (Delyth Jewell)
In Ceredigion Penfro, patients can access endometriosis support from the Welsh Government funded Specialist Endometriosis Nurse based within Hywel Dda University Health Board who actively spends time with patients in clinics and liaising with their multidisciplinary teams to improve the endometriosis service provision within the health board.
Welsh Government funding also supports the Endometriosis Cymru website, which is available to people across Ceredigion and provides information, resources and tools to support symptom management and discussions with healthcare professionals.
We recognise that diagnosis of endometriosis can take too long. We are committed to strengthening the NHS Wales Women’s Health Plan – reducing delayed diagnosis and late treatment for women and girls in areas such as endometriosis.
We are taking forward a programme of work focused on improving the pathway across primary, secondary and tertiary services throughout Wales. This will include work to improve workforce skills to encourage earlier recognition of symptoms and improving access to assessment and treatment to reduce diagnostic delays across Wales.
