What consideration has the Welsh Government given to introducing statutory guidance for schools in Wales, similar to "Benedict's Law" in England, to improve allergy safety for pupils, including requirements for whole-school allergy policies, staff training, individual healthcare plans and access to emergency adrenaline auto-injectors?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Education and the Welsh Language (Anna Brychan)
The Welsh Government is aware of developments in England regarding ‘Benedict’s Law’ and is currently reviewing relevant statutory and supplementary guidance, including guidance on the use of emergency adrenaline auto-injectors in maintained schools. We will consider Benedict’s Law, alongside wider developments across the UK, to inform future policy in Wales.
In the meantime, Welsh Government sets out clear expectations for maintained schools and local authorities through its statutory guidance, supporting learners with healthcare needs in schools statutory guidance.
We have also published specific guidance for schools on the use of emergency adrenaline auto-injectors to treat anaphylaxis, supporting schools to respond effectively to allergic reactions and help keep learners safe.
