What representations has the Welsh Government made to the UK Government and the Infected Blood Compensation Authority regarding delays in compensation payments to infected blood victims and their families, and what action is being taken to help accelerate the process?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Health and Care (Mabon ap Gwynfor)
I am aware of concerns raised regarding delays in the compensation process and aspects of claim administration and I recently wrote to the then Minister for the Cabinet Office, Nick Thomas-Symonds to raise these matters. We understand the frustration of those who have already waited decades for recognition and redress. Where concerns are raised with us, they are shared with the UK Government, including IBCA, at officials’ regular meetings to ensure that claimants’ experiences inform the continuing development of the scheme.
I, along with officials, have also met with Haemophilia Wales, where I was able to discuss first hand the issues that those infected and their families are facing as a result of these delays.
You will also be aware of the written statement I issued to members on the 16 July detailing action taken on this matter.
