How many individual asylum seekers have been provided with legal advice funded by Welsh Government schemes?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Minister for Social Justice and Equality (Sioned Williams)
Asylum and immigration law, including the regulation of and access to immigration legal advice, are reserved to the UK Government.
The Welsh Government does not hold data on the number of individual asylum seekers who have received legal advice and does not fund individual asylum seekers directly to access legal advice.
Due to the shortage of immigration legal advisors and legal aid providers in Wales, the Welsh Government provides funding to develop and improve the resilience of the legal sector in Wales. This includes funding to help organisations in Wales train staff members to achieve accreditation with the Immigration Advice Authority (IIA).
