Does the Welsh Government have plans to bring in rent controls?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
We recently announced the first phase of our legislative programme. The first phase includes legislation to strengthen the rights of tenants in the private rented sector. This will lay the groundwork for more substantial changes that will improve housing affordability and make renting fairer. We are determined to make housing more affordable for everyone in Wales and ensure the cost of housing better reflects local incomes; including fair and affordable rents in the private rented sector. Our manifesto made a commitment to bring in rent controls and I will be considering this in later phases of our legislative programme, based on evidence and consultation.
