Will the Cabinet Minister provide an update on how the Welsh Government will accelerate remedial work on leaseholders’ homes affected by the cladding scandal, with particular reference to provisions laid out in Sections 116-124 of the Building Safety (Wales) Act?
Ateb
Atebwyd gan Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
Sections 116-124 of the Building Safety Act 2022 do not apply in Wales. The Building Safety (Wales) Act 2026 requires the Welsh Ministers to lay a draft of a Welsh statutory instrument pertaining to Remediation Orders and Remediation Contribution Orders before the Senedd within 9 months of the Act receiving Royal Assent. The Welsh Government is currently consulting on these regulations and I intend to lay them as soon as possible, and hope to do so before the end of this calendar year.
In the meantime, I will continue to explore all avenues to increase the pace of the Building Safety Remediation Programme and other possible interventions this government can make to support leaseholders.
