Question
What discussions has the Minister had about the current one-parent-for-births policy that is in place at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
After listening to women and families and consulting with midwives, guidance for essential partner support for women within maternity services was revised in November 2020. This allowed health boards flexibility to vary arrangements according to transmission rates following local risk assessments in conjunction with relevant services. Risk assessments are undertaken on an independent, local basis and take into account environmental factors such as room sizes, estimated footfall, ability to socially distance and infection prevention and control risks.
Since the publication of this guidance, following the completion of a risk assessment, all Health Boards have informed the Chief Nursing Officer in Welsh Government of any resulting changes to its maternity visiting guidance. Cardiff and Vale most recently provided information on changes to its guidance in April 2021 when visiting restrictions were partially relaxed.
