Question
Will the Welsh Government support the calls for a statutory victims law?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Social Justice
The Welsh Government is supportive, and agrees victims should have the certainty that they will be understood, protected, and supported as they recover from the impacts of crime.
The overall principles set out in the Ministry of Justice consultation ‘Delivering justice for victims: A Consultation on improving experiences of the justice system’, published on the 9 December 2021, align with the Welsh Government’s views regarding victims support and the services they require.
I will be writing to the Deputy Prime Minister, and Secretary of State for Justice outlining the Welsh Government’s response to the consultation. Officials are continuing to work with the Ministry of Justice on this work and the development of the Bill.
