Question
What action is the Welsh Government taking to ensure that Natural Resources Wales manages forestry land assets in such a way that timber availability from these assets increases and that land is restocked at least as fast as it is felled?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The purpose and role of the Welsh Government Woodland Estate’ sets a priority that the overall productive potential (in terms of timber, wood products and other benefits) of the Estate will be maintained and if appropriate, enhanced, to support the continued sustainable growth of the forestry sector in Wales and beyond.
In 2020/21, 1,569 hectares of woodland on the Estate was restocked, which was 98% of the 1,603 hectare target, and the best achievement for 7 years.
