Question
Further to WQ84268, will the Minister provide an update on the exercise undertaken to assess workforce gaps in eating disorder services across all health boards, and confirm what action will be taken nationally to bolster provision whilst recruitment to previously approved posts is underway?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing
We have asked health boards to include updates on recruitment to posts following Service Improvement Funding in 2021/22 in their bids for funding in 2022/23. The bids are expected imminently and will be considered before funding is released.
I have also requested progress updates on improvements to eating disorder services from the Vice-chairs of each health board. We expect these to show high level information on eating disorder improvement spend and activity since 2019 and a forward look for 2022/23. The deadline for responses is 20 May and returns will be considered alongside the information provided by health boards in the Service Improvement Funding bids.
Following consideration of the Service Improvement bids and the returns from Vice-chairs, I will be writing to the Children, Young People and Education Committee in June to provide an update on progress and plans to improve eating disorders services.
