Question
What funding has the Welsh Government made available for each Welsh local authority to meet their obligations under the play sufficiency duty in each year since the duty was introduced?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services
The Play Sufficiency Duty was initially introduced on a cost neutral basis in November 2012. When the Duty came into full force in 2014, it was agreed with the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) that the Welsh Government would aim to make funding available each year to assist local authorities in meeting the Duty.
Since 2013 the Welsh Government has allocated £30,330,000 revenue funding and £8,000,000 capital funding to local authorities to meet their Play Sufficiency Duty. A breakdown of the total funding awarded by financial year is set out in Annex 1. In addition, funding was provided through one off funding streams in relation to Covid and the Cost of Living Crisis. A breakdown of funding to each local authority is also included at Annex 2.
