Question
Will the Welsh Government provide guidance to small businesses on recycling obscure and specialist waste that cannot currently be recycled?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change
Business producers of waste are responsible for handling their waste, according to the longstanding, existing waste regulation regime.
All businesses have the option of contracting with a private waste collector or their local authority to collect their recycling. Businesses can also opt to use a waste collection broker. Small and rural businesses may also wish to consider working together to procure waste management services to create economies of scale and minimise costs.
Business Wales advisors can provide advice to businesses on how to take action to improve resource efficiency, which can include looking at solutions for hard to recycle items. Business Wales can also advise what funding may be available to support businesses with their recycling ambitions, such as the Small Business Research Initiative Cymru (SBRI Cymru).
Welsh Government funding is also available to businesses via the Circular Economy Fund to support investment to change their processes to, for example, increase the use of recycled and re-used content in products they produce.
