Question
Does the Welsh Government plan to expand the digital deposit return scheme to the rest of Wales, following a successful trial in Brecon?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
The trial in Brecon provided us and the trial organisers with invaluable information about how digital technology can potentially be used to integrate a Deposit Return Scheme with our successful household collection services. It also gave us information on how consumers, businesses and a local authority can work together on a Deposit Return Scheme. The results are extremely encouraging, and I thank the residents and businesses of Brecon for their positive engagement. The next step will be to consider the information from the trial in partnership with the technology providers, Local Authorities and drinks sector. This will include looking at what additional development may be necessary before a Digital Deposit Return Scheme is ready to be rolled out across Wales.
