Question
What discussions has the Welsh Government had with the Electoral Commission about what data from Welsh voters was accessed by hackers in the cyber-attacks beginning in August 2021, which targeted electoral registers held by them?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Local Government and Planning
The Electoral Commission notified Welsh Ministers about the incident and set out the measures being taken to avoid future breaches.
Welsh Ministers and Welsh government Officials frequently engage with the Electoral Commission and have discussed the issue on a number of occasions.
I look forward to continuing the constructive engagement with the Electoral Commission on this and broader matters. I expect the Llywydd’s Committee will also be discussing this matter in their consideration of the Electoral Commission’s future plans and performance.
