Question
What action is the Welsh Government taking to resolve the increasing absenteeism of pupils in Welsh schools following Estyn's annual report?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
Improving attendance remains a national priority and we have announced £8.8m in funding to support schools with this work over two years. School attendance has increased by 0.5% this year already, and we remain focused on raising levels back to where they were before the pandemic.
I continue to be extremely encouraged to see how schools, and our wider educational providers who support the education of our disengaged learners are tackling attendance concerns and working with learners to understand and address the issues around absenteeism.
