Question
What discussions has the Welsh Government had with local authorities about garden bonfires?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
The Welsh Government position is to ensure that the public has information available to make appropriate choices to meet their needs and the needs of their environment, which includes decision making around the act of burning such as bonfires, or removal of waste via alternative routes such as garden waste collections or civic amenity sites.
The legal responsibility for investigating statutory nuisance, which includes smoke from domestic burning, resides with the relevant Local Authority.
