Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm what definition is used by the Welsh Government in relation to 'never events' in NHS Wales, and what is the source of this definition?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
The Welsh Government uses the NHS England definition for never events to ensure a consistent approach. These are defined as serious incidents, which are wholly preventable because guidance or safety recommendations are available at a national level and should have been implemented by all healthcare providers.
The source of this definition is the never events policy (and framework), which was revised in January 2018.
