Question
How is the Welsh Government advising Transport for Wales to ensure rail disruption is minimised as a result of snow?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Network Rail are responsible for managing access to the rail network in Wales and therefore lead on decision making regarding whether trains can run, or not, during weather events and storms. Transport for Wales works closely with them to agree a plan for their rail services during adverse weather conditions, seeking to best mitigate any disruption to passengers. Decisions during weather events and storms are made based on the latest information available and in the interest of protecting the safety of passengers and staff. Transport for Wales seek to communicate service changes clearly and quickly to passengers and to provide advance notice of disruption to services wherever possible, recognising the frustration such disruption can cause.
Transport for Wales is committed to delivering for passengers and regularly reviews its response to disruptive incidents. A dedicated lessons learned activity on the response to Storm Goretti will be held between Transport for Wales and Network Rail to ensure continuous improvement on an industry-wide basis.
