Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary outline the intended similarities and differences between religion, values and ethics education and the previous religious education?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
The legal requirements for Religion Values and Ethics (RVE) are explained in the Legislative Summary of the Curriculum for Wales guidance. Expectations for RVE are set out in the Humanities statutory guidance. RVE has been designed to prepare learners for later life in a diverse world, as responsible and informed citizens, as well as healthy confident individuals.
RVE has been designed to ensure it is compliant with Article 2, Protocol 1 of the European Convention on Human rights, Both the teaching of RVE and agreed syllabi for RVE must reflect both religious beliefs and non‑religious philosophical convictions.
