Question
Will the Cabinet Secretary outline enforcement arrangements for schools in Wales that are found not to meet their statutory duty to provide religion, values and ethics education?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education
Religious, values and ethics (RVE) is mandatory for all learners aged 3–16 under the Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Act 2021.
Schools must follow both the RVE statutory guidance and their locally agreed syllabus, ensuring their curriculum reflects Welsh Government guidance and local requirements.
Local authorities have statutory responsibility for monitoring and supporting their schools and intervening where appropriate.
