Question
Has the Welsh Government been encouraging the UK Government to implement the tariff free quota for UK steel into the US as agreed under the UK-US economic prosperity deal, and if so, since when?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning
The Welsh Government regularly meets with the UK government to discuss ongoing trade negotiations and ensure Welsh interests are represented, including the negotiations under the UK-US Economic Prosperity deal.
While the Welsh Government cannot comment on open negotiations, I can assure the Member that key topics such as steel are discussed. The First Minister also recently met with the Prime Minister and issued a Written Statement highlighting the importance of improving the trading environment for UK Steel.
