Question
What consideration has the Cabinet Secretary given to how a national clinical lead for myalgic encephalomyelitis would support improvements in diagnosis, treatment pathways and professional training across Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
Welsh Government officials are in discussions with NHS Wales, clinicians and stakeholders, including those with expertise in ME about the potential appointment of a national clinical lead for the Adferiad (Recovery) service, which supports people living with post‑infection associated chronic illness, including ME.
Investment in Adferiad services has enabled the development of clinical expertise where gaps previously existed, particularly among the allied health professional workforce. Significant gaps remain in medical workforce capacity, which is a UK-wide issue. Our current position provides a stronger foundation on which further improvements can be built.
