Question
What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with National Resources Wales and Cardiff Council about the environmental impact of Creigiau Quarry?
Answer
Answered by Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs
No discussions have been held with Natural Resources Wales or Cardiff Council regarding the environmental impact of Creigiau Quarry.
Quarrying in Wales is governed by strict planning and environmental controls. Planning permission includes conditions to protect air quality and public health. Minerals Technical Advice Note 1 (MTAN1) requires health impacts to be assessed for all aggregates proposals, including a Health Impact Assessment for any new quarry within one kilometre of a community.
MTAN1 and Planning Policy Wales provide a robust framework to manage quarrying impacts, ensuring protection of environmental assets and community well‑being. Planning authorities are responsible for ensuring impacts, such as air quality and soundscape, remain within acceptable limits.
If you wish to know more about what environmental assessment has been made in relation to Creigiau Quarry then you may wish to contact Cardiff Council Directly.
