Question
What assessment the Welsh Government has made of the political impartiality of Nation.Cymru in light of the Welsh Government funding received by the organisation, and what safeguards are in place to ensure that public funds are not used to support politically partisan journalism?
Answer
Answered by Trefnydd, Chief Whip and Cabinet Minister for Culture and Sport (Heledd Fychan)
In ensuring impartiality, it is not for the Welsh Government to determine what constitutes deviation from political neutrality by a media organisation or assess their impartiality.
An impartial media is critical to a functioning democracy and we* expect media outlets in receipt of Welsh Government funds to operate without political bias.
The Welsh Government does not directly support the provision of news content by media outlets.
