Question
What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to the findings of Williams Commission in 2014 regarding reducing the number of local authorities in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Cabinet Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning (Siân Gwenllian)
Reorganisation of the principal local authorities is not a priority for this government. Our priority is working with councils within existing structures to support and enable them to find their own and shared solutions to support long-term sustainability, collaboration and effective service delivery to ensure they are in the strongest position possible to provide the services on which we all depend. This includes ongoing discussions about regional arrangements and how they can best support local, regional and national priorities.
